Artist Statement
I am a native Texan living in Austin and have always found myself drawn to places in nature that have little or no human influence. I have spent many years as a stone mason trying to bring a little bit of nature’s beauty back into our everyday lives. In the past couple of years I have put down my stone hammer and picked up ink and paper. I see color as emotion and light as a reflection of our struggle to be a part of nature. I try to capture the feelings I experience, rather than just the image itself.
I use markers on watercolor paper to create my original images. Pointillism is my favorite way of bringing my world to paper. I find the process rather relaxing and meditative. My most recent works reflect my passion for sea life and the ocean, and my love of Texas landscapes.
